Dorg’s 37th (December 23, 2010) Annual Sing-A-Long Raises: $17,237

Where has Ray taken us………HIGHER!

On December 23, 2010 we did it again and raised $17,237! Fueled by Kentucky Fried Chicken in their bellies, a warm spirit in their hearts, and a catchy Christmas tune in their heads, 40 of Dorg’s Merry Makers hit the streets of West Point Grey and once again created the magic. Special thanks to Ray and Dave who every year put extra special effort into their pre-caroling donation campaigns that always propel us higher and higher. We look forward to gathering the Christmas Caroling Clan again this year on Friday December 23rd at Santa Dorg’s.

Cop Couple Buys Bike Shop

Local police officers Jett and Dorothy Junio have acquired Riders Cycles from Gene Salamatian, who founded the bike shop 29 years ago. Salamatian said he has entertained several offers over the years to sell the business at 1092 Cloverdale Ave., but none felt right “until Jett walked into the store and I sold him a bike … a month later I sold him the store.

I’d been looking for the right fit and Jett and Dorothy were it.” The Junios, both police officers in Edmonton, moved to Victoria in 2008 after vacationing here for several years. Jett joined the Saanich force and Dorothy was hired in Oak Bay. The couple, both 49, have two teenage sons. “We’re all kind of bike nuts,” confided Jett, who is currently on a sabbatical from Saanich to run the business. “Gene started talking about retirement and we thought, “why not, let’s go for it.” The Junios have retained all seven staff and will add new lines of accessories and convert current office space into a bike fitting studio.
